the 18th Asian Games has begun and the Indonesian government has
been preparing in full swing. They have already equipped themselves with the complete
knowledge of this event.
Asian games is undoubtedly, the biggest, most
awaited sports event of Asia. Hosted under the administration of The Olympic
Council of Asia, this event is held every 4 years and has huge participation
from countries all over the continent. It also makes sure to showcase the
diverse Asian culture. Launched in 1951 in New Delhi, India, this event is now
going to be held in two different cities in Indonesia: Jakarta and Palembang.
With 45 competing countries like China, India, South Korea, Japan etc. this is
one of the biggest sports affairs ever, that is hosted by Indonesia because of
the gigantic figure of 11,300 participants coming forth to try their luck.
Although this event has been around for
decades, this is the first time The Asian Games is to be held
in two different cities: Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia which is already
very popular with the local and the international crowd as it happens to be the
heart of the business, economy, and political sectors of the country,
attracting experts to explore, which helps in boosting the existing economy.
The other hosting city, Palembang, is the capital of the province of South
Sumatra. This city is divided into two because of the Sumatra stream, the
longest river, which flows through this industrial city. Being the second
biggest city in Sumatra, this town offers stunning architecture that showcases
the mixture of the early Buddhist Empire along with Dutch colonialism and also
modernism. Palembang is to play the role of the supporting city for the 18th
Asian Games by hosting several different sports events while Jakarta will host
the main event. Additionally, the regions surrounding Jakarta, including Banten
and West Java, will also back up Jakarta and help them play the hosts.
The event kicked off in Gelora Bung Karno on 18th of
August 2018. The event was graced by the performance of the international k-pop
star, Girls Generation. It also saw Indonesia’s very own President Jokowi Dodo give
a speech on the opening day. The duration of the event is from the 8th of
August to the 2nd of December. The event is spread in two
different cities; hence, one should make sure to have the right time and avenue
